How To Become a Cosmetologist in Washington

In order to become a licensed cosmetologist in the state of Washington, you must complete 1,600 hours of approved cosmetology training and pass a written and practical exam.

There are many different cosmetology schools throughout the state that can help you meet these requirements. Most of these schools offer flexible schedules and payment plans to make cosmetology training accessible to everyone.

Once you have completed your training and passed the exams, you will be able to apply for a cosmetology license from the state of Washington.

With a license, you will be able to start your own cosmetology business or work in an existing salon.

To get your license it’s only going to cost you $25 on top of what you’ve already paid to purchase a kit and attend a school to complete your training.

When, how often, and How much will it Cost me to renew my license?

You’re required to renew your license every 2 years and the renewal fee is $55. If you fail to renew in time the cost doubles and you’ll be required to pay $110.

Can I practice cosmetology in a different state after getting my license in Washington?

Yes, depending on the state, but you’ll still need to complete the application process and pay a reciprocity fee. If you’re moving from a different state to Washington then the same process applies and the fee is $50.
